Spice Space

Who would have thought that a time would come when slay queens would be shopping for most of their beauty products not just from the grocery store but from among cooking spices, herbs and teas!

Hair care and skin care are invading our kitchen and pantries faster than you can think up a word, so to speak. When the kitchen is out of chilli, mum, aunt, sister or heck girlfriend is likely first suspect.

When the last Avocado disappears hmmm.....What about running out of Mayonaise for that salad... Okay...

Anyway what is good to ingest is also great to use topically. That is a tried and tested saying. Do not forget that it is far cheaper too. In this era of frugal living, the kitchen or say pantry is home to and offers up a wide variety of ingredients to sustain our bodies in and out. If it is the athletes toe recipe you need for instance, baking soda and water besides other remedies from your kitchen is a good way to go. Treating zits or tags? Good ole ACV or even baking soda. Dandruff? Checkout vegetable glycerine. Thinning hair or edges? onion or ginger juice! Thick healthy hair that shows growth? cayenne pepper or rice water rinse, also great for beautiful skin. Fairer skin? Run to turmeric, honey and or lemon juice. Hair deep conditioning? Hello Avocado and/or Mayonaise! Burns or stings? Then hi Aloe Vera!  You just name it and pantry responds.

If you can eat it, you can apply it .... Lol! Just be smart enough to know what is really feasible or not.

You know, our great grand mothers used to depend a great deal on natural products of plants especially for their beauty needs and I have wondered for a long time how on earth they figured out what most of us are just beginning to. Even in their limited literacy or lack of it, they knew what would enhance their beauty naturally and safely and used them. If nothing else, names like cam-wood, Nzu (white chalk), Ori (Shea butter), Palm Kernel oil (Elu Aki/u), honey to mention a few have been known to enhance skin beauty for so so many years yet our so called civilization and the quest by businesses to make profits threw us far out of course so that we believed chemicals were the way to go.

We completely forgot the natural and supple looks that our mothers boasted and settled for skin damaging solutions in the quest for lighter, smoother skin and what not. Now don't get me wrong. Light skin is as beautiful as dark or brown or chocolate skin. All skin color is beautiful, it is left for the owner of it to appreciate what he/she has.

If you really must lighten your complexion or brighten it (there is a difference), it would be a good idea to do so safely from natural sources. Just be sure to do a patch test to ensure that you are not allergic.

Sometimes I wonder why we fail to realize that there is beauty in colors. That is probably the reason why we were created black, white, red, yellow whatever ... lol. If we all boasted one complexion, I mean what would be the beauty in it anyway?

Ehem! Lest I digress, I was on the topic of spices for beauty enhancement.

Through research, a lot of nutritional values have been discovered in a vast range of plants and other naturally sourced items like clay that are found in our foods too. Meaning that even as we ingest food for these nutrients, our skin can be safely fed with the topical application of these materials.

The most attractive part is the part where we have come to realize that beauty can come cheap.

Now there are people who are unable to patiently wait for results to show in store bought products, these people need to know that although DIYs give great results, DIYs are slower in showing results and so patience is critical once you have found what works and stick to it.
